What is boxing all about?
Many people assume that a boxing match is an angry event geared around "duking it out," but that couldn't be farther from the truth. While boxing is an aggressive sport, it also requires a great deal of discipline, skill, and heart from its competitors. By definition, boxing involves fighting with one's fists while wearing padded gloves, but the training incorporates a wide variety of things include strength training, speed and agility drills, core work, learning proper form, and sparring.
What To Know Before You Come to Boxing Class
Be prepared for a killer cardio workout, but also to walk away feeling empowered and strong. After one class, you'll be hooked. Classes vary but generally include "rounds" of a variety of exercises and drills to get your heart rate up and help you develop proper form and quick reactions. Don't worry, if you find yourself getting tired, you get a short break in between rounds! We also incorporate sparring, though sparring is not required. If you want to spar, you MUST wear a mouth guard.
What to wear: Standard gym clothes work great for boxing class. For your first class, you are more than welcome to borrow our community hand wraps and gloves, but most people prefer to buy their own set of hand wraps. We sell extra long and stretchy hand wraps (we've tried a lot, and we think these are some of the best!) in a variety of colors for just $10. We also sell mouth guards if you need one. Once you get in the swing of things, we prefer that you invest in your own pair of gloves, but we will always provide the pads, bags, jump ropes, and weight equipment!
